SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer, it provides a secure data transfer channel with encrypted data. For SSL support you need a dedicated IP address for your website and a SSL certificate issued by an Authorized Certificate Authority (CA) like VeriSign or GeoTrust. To enable SSL support please follow the below steps. Logging into the Plesk control panel using the URL https://yourdomain.com:8443.
Click the SSL Certificates icon in the Additional Tools.
Click Add New Certificate.
Specify the certificate properties
Download the certificate signing request (CSR) file and save it on your machine. To do this, click the respective icon.
Once downloaded, open the file in a text editor, copy the text enclosed in lines -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and -----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- to the clipboard. Using your favorite mail client software, create a new e-mail message and paste the text from the clipboard. Send this message to the Certification Authority that will create an SSL certificate in accordance with the information you supplied. When you receive your SSL certificate, save it on your local machine or network.
Return to the SSL Certificates repository (Home > SSL Certificates).
Return to the domain's administration screen (Home) and click the Web Hosting Settings icon in the Web Site menu.
Select the SSL certificate that you wish to install from the Certificate drop-down box. Select the SSL support check box and click OK. Your Certificate should work properly now.
